It’s the end of the summer (already!?) and Maltbury’s Brighton customers have some great entertainment lined up this autumn. Here are my favourite picks from September’s calendar…

The Brighton Centre, customers of our Steeldeck Staging, present some big comedy names this season including the ‘Spexy Beast’ Alan Carr! His brand new show is the first Alan’s toured with in four years and is sure to be a sell out. For tickets and info click here.

Metrodeck customers Komedia present ‘Alive and Swinging with Marilyn Monroe’. Marilyn returns to earth with showbiz pals Frank Sinatra and Elvis for a final night of swinging, cabaret fun. Join them for dinner, show and dance at Komedia Brighton this September. Ticket information here.

Finally, see Bombay Cycle Club at the Brighton Dome at the end of September. The indie turned folk quartet had a top ten album last summer and are set to start a new chapter with the release of their new album ‘A Different Kind of Fix’.  For more info click here.

The hottest day in the UK for 5 years! Brighton comes into its own in the summer time but after the beach and the burn there’s still plenty to amuse yourself with.  This July Maltbury’s Brighton customers offer comedy, music and lots of dancing!

Brighton Dome, owners of Metrodeck and Steeldeck, present a 1920’s themed Tea Dance. Dust off your dancing shoes for an afternoon of waltz, tango, rumba and foxtrot all to the music of the Footloose Dance Orchestra at Brighton’s Corn Exchange. For more info click here.

Streetfunk!

If you’d rather watch dancing than take-part then watch out for Streetfunk. Streetfunk is Brighton’s most popular hip hop dance company and they’ll be showcasing their moves alongside special guests – including the winners of Sky’s Got to Dance 20011! Click for ticket details.

Metrodeck customer Komedia in Brighton are offering a discount on their Summer Krater Comedy Club shows. With 4 top comedians in each show and a tasty menu to boot the Karter Club shows are already really popular with locals. For more info on ticket prices click here.

Last week’s sunshine fooled me into thinking that sunbathing on Brighton beach after work would be a good idea. After much shivering and no tan perhaps it’s still a bit too early in the year for such optimism! So instead let’s have a gander at what’s on in Brighton. There’s a huge choice this season! Our Metrodeck and Steeldeck customers have so many brilliant theatre, music and comedy acts this Easter I’ve had to pick just a few of my favourites. For full listings check out the venue’s websites!

Catch the Western classic ‘Calamity Jane’ at Komedia from 5th – 10th April. Saloons, Stetsons, guns and Indians and a fantastic score make this a great show for all ages! More info.

Edinburgh Comedy Award winner Russel Kane for one night only at Komedia 19th May 2011 is going to be a sure sell-out! Don’t miss out, booking info here!

Brighton Dome also present some hilarious comedy acts in April with the likes of Ed Byrne and Micky Flanagan (got my ticket all ready!) Click for more info.

For music lovers Katie Melua is performing at Brighton Dome on the 25th April. Her new album ‘The House’ promises melodic, jazz-inflected pop with new sounds of folk, burlesque and even warped electro rock! Book tickets here.

Since signing up to the 10:10 pledge in 2009 Maltbury has been constantly implementing ways to lower its carbon emissions:

Energy! We are continuing to use Good Energy as the electrical supplier to our warehouse. We have experienced brilliant customer service with their super friendly staff and we know that we’re reducing damage to the environment by using renewable energy. We even feature on their website!

So green thumbs up for our warehouse but what’s our Brighton office doing to be the greenest it can be?

Recycling! Our stacks of food cartons and paper are recycled by the lovely Brighton Paper Round team (formally Magpie Commercial). Despite the name change they’re still the same ethical recycling company we know and love and we’ve used them to recycle our broken printers and ancient fax machines! Click for more info.

Transport! The Maltbury staff walks or cycles to work every day. Great for the environment and it means the office is open however wet, windy or snowy it gets!

Small Things! Maltbury know small changes can make a big difference which is why we use Ecover cleaning products, choose organic tea and milk and turn off any electrics when they’re not in use.

See our Environmental Policy page for more info and look out for our next 10:10 blog!

Based in Brighton, Maltbury Staging are lucky enough to have a huge choice of some of the best British chocolate companies right on our door step – which made it simple to decide on what we should offer our customers this Valentines.

January really is the worst month. It is freezing, everyone’s ill and money’s tight. But for a lousy month at least it’s flown by. I’m looking straight ahead to Spring since it’s nearly February already!

The family are visiting in the half-term so I thought I’d better investigate what’s going on in Brighton.  Our customers have a variety of interesting events on next month – what takes your fancy?

13th Feb First up is one for the tiny dancers.  Metrodeck customer Komedia is hosting Baby Loves Disco! Real DJs, face-painting and lots of dancing make this a great community event for kids and parents.

18th and 19th Feb The Brighton Centre (owners of Steeldeck) present MODELWORLD 2011. Everything you want from a Model Exhibition including radio-controlled cars, trucks, boats and tanks; doll houses; a marine section with fishing boats and warships; Lego displays and even a train ride!

24th Feb – 6th March Steeldeck and Metrodeck customer The Brighton Pavilion present ‘Brighton’s Alternative Panto’ Dick Whittington.

And finally Maltbury will be at the BSEC show 23rd/24th Feb.  The show is vital for anyone involved in the education sector and we are looking forward to promoting our versatile staging to some new customers. See us at stand 823! Click here for more info.

I love Christmas.   I’m one of those.   I’ve been soaking Gammon in apple juice and cloves,  getting into heated debates about the huge differences between silver baubles and gold baubles and my ringtone since November has been Santa Baby.   And the best thing is I’ve been allowed to get this excited in Brighton!  This city loves Christmas!  I have yet to meet a Brighton Scrooge.  And to prove it I’ve put a fantastically festive, wonderfully wintery, sensationally seasonal (I’ll stop now) events list from our Brighton customers.

If I hadn’t booked my ticket for Ice-skating at Somerset House back in the summer The Brighton Centre (customers of our Steeldeck) is where I would be.  They are re-introducing their Ice Skating rink between 20th December to 6 January.  The rink is sponsored by Heart radio so cheesy tunes aplenty to fall over to  -  watch out for little fingers!

Owners of Metrodeck, Komedia Brighton present Rabbits, Ladders and Jars of Stars until January.  Told with beautiful puppetry and a live music score I’m certain this is a show that both adults and children will marvel at.

Steeldeck & Metrodeck customer Brighton Dome is putting on a sing-a-long Christmas concert this Friday 17th.  Oh yes oh yes oh yay!  Expect all the classic Christmas songs from O Come, All Ye Faithful’ to ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday’ – (I can’t wait!).

And when Christmas is over,  see the New Year in with the Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra on New Year’s Eve at 2.45pm – led by violin in traditional Viennese concert style at the Brighton Dome.

I hope you are now feeling appropriately festive, have a very Merry Christmas, keep warm and see you in the New Year!!

Winter has officially started!  And whilst having that extra hour in bed was nice, leaving the office in the dark and fighting a losing battle with the central heating auto-timer leaves us wanting something to look forward to.

So to tide us all over until the Christmas Party we’ve found out what our customers are putting on in Brighton this month.  Feel free to add to our list!

  • Macbeth at the Brighton Dome! 25th to 27th November.  Steeldeck customers Brighton Dome present the award-winning Polish company Teatr Pieśń Kozła!  Embracing the musicality and muscularity of Shakespeare’s poetry Teatr Pieśń Kozła produce a chilling but beautiful production of the Scottish Play.  For tickets click here.
  • Brighton Centre recognises the versatility of Maltbury’s Steeldeck Ultra staging.  You can rock out with Motorhead on 28th November – Test your sporting trivia at the ‘A Question of Sport’ live show on 14th November – or Take Your Mama Out all night to the Scissor Sisters performing December 2nd.  For more info click here.

Komedia use our versatile Metrodeck Staging

  • A Silent Movie Experience at Komedia! See silent movies the way they were meant to be seen – with live music!  Metrodeck customers Komedia present the antics of David Watts and his silent movie show from the 5th – 12th Dec.  One for all the family!  And don’t forget the slightly more adult Krater comedy club shows every weekend!  For more info click here.
  • Christmas Tea Dance at the Corn Exchange! Sunday 12th December.  The Corn Exchange, owners of our Metrodeck stage, presents the talented Footloose Dance Orchestra!  Let them whisk you back to the golden era of 1920’s and 30’s music.  Show off your dancing skills, enjoy an Afternoon tea and dream of simpler times.  Click here for more info.
