Maltbury to Base at RAF Brize Norton

Versatility is a key feature of all our products but we are usually talking about a performing arts context of some sort. In early 2007, however, we were contacted by FL Hannam of RAF Brize Norton who asked us to solve a problem for him.

FL Hannam said there was a flooding problem in a building where his colleagues maintained electrical equipment for planes and helicopters. He was looking to lift his gear up off the floor so it could be worked on at an appropriate height and removed from the risk of getting wet.

Maltbury MD Philip Sparkes assured him that this would be possible and went to discuss the job and look at the site. Upon arrival it turned out that this was not just 'a building' but a vast hangar. Moreover, when the flooding occurred it was to a depth of 18 inches - a huge volume of water!

Yet what the RAF needed was quite simply delivered with Maltbury Metrodeck: a versatile stock of some 80 decks at exactly the right working height; phenolic-coated boards and alloy legs to ensure the water did no damage; and plenty of castors so the decks could be stacked and stored when not in use.

In early autumn we had a call from a FL Dempster at Brize Norton. The RAF is not allowed to recommend a product. However, she did make it clear that the summer rain had proved the perfect test of our equipment and she wanted another order of a similar size. So now the base has more than 300m2 of decks on which to maintain, prep. and store their equipment. Or, of course, on which to mount an almighty performance!
