Luke Harrison, Performing Arts Technician at Canon Slade School recently ordered some extra legs for his Metrodeck to create some tiers. Luke has really embraced the versatility of Maltbury's modular equipment and has achieved some really exciting set ups! We took the opportunity to get some feedback:
I believe the staging was originally bought for staging and raked seating. We've recently bought a new set of legs to build a three metre high tier with a boxed in, enclosed space attached. Also our lighting and sound control is operated from tall Metrodeck structures.
In the past we have also built a two level 'in the round' space, seating about two hundred people. The year previously we extended our proscenium arch stage to incorporate a catwalk for our production of We Will Rock You. The flexibility and sizing of the system allows us to easily design stages and seating plans with little training required, and only a couple of spanners!
As an ambitious performing arts college with a strong reputation for our productions, modular equipment allows us to change the layout of our school hall in countless ways, to continually raise the bar and experience for our audiences. It is this reason we use and value Metrodeck so highly.
Upon starting my post, I was initially sceptical about the strength of the system at height. However after construction, with advice from Maltbury's ever friendly staff, and with some extra bracing using standard scaffold, the system felt solid as a rock and I never had any misgivings about its strength. This was at a height of 6.5’. Our next height will be 3m and I have no fear about its structural integrity.
I would recommend the product to any school technician who needs a staging solution. It can be as simple or complex a set-up as required.
Great service and communication.
In March we are one of the first schools to be chosen to perform Billy Elliot - Youth Theatre edition. Following this, we also have a junior production of Peter Pan led by our sixth form, a performance of Kes by our Theatre Studies students, and a Dance show. All of these shows incorporate Metrodeck as our seating system and some of our staging.
Thanks Luke!
