Back in March, Simon Stranks needed to replace some heavy thrust staging with something lighter but more solid and versatile. He decided that Metrodeck triangles would be the perfect solution and he wasn't wrong. Just two triangle decks have created a massive impact in the performace space, without taking up too much room. Maltbury Sales Manager Kate catches up with Simon to see how they're getting on..
We originally purchased the [Metrodeck] staging to use as a thrust to our very small stage when we put on The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. It was bought to replace some homemade [staging] we had that was far to heavy to lift.
The recent addition to our collection was to allow easier access on the set and to increase the performance space.
The staging has allowed us to move the performance forward into the audience to create a more intimate and close up experience without losing view. With the use of different length legs, we are able to either have the Maltbury staging at stage level or at half height.
The staging is very simple to dismantle. With aid of a spanner the legs come off in less than 1 minute and then it is easily lifted to the side of the stage and put away. Once assembled the staging is easily secured with the velcro straps and is solid as a rock!
The staging has allowed us to be more versatile in our performances, moving the acting area into the audience without the loss of vision from the audience. When not in use, the staging is easily stored at the side of the stage. The different sized modules allow us to make up different layouts, from the traditional catwalk to a square stage.
The quality of the staging is obvious being strong enough to allow the cast of The King and I to dance on it without it moving under the strain!!
I would happily recommend Maltbury staging to anyone considering a purchase.
Our next show is a Murder Mystery 'Nightmare on Elm Drive', commissioned for the club from local playwrite Ellis Smith. Details of dates and times can be found on the club website at www.silsoedramaclub.org.uk.
Thanks Simon!
