Metrodeck Ultra for the Guildhall School

For several years now, Maltbury has supplied the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with staging for their concert hall, altogether some seventy pieces of Steeldeck with lacquered tops. Consequently, when they had a staging dilemma early in 2006, they contacted Maltbury.

The Guildhall had recently had a large retractable seating structure installed in their concert hall. While they were happy with the installation, a potential problem was discovered. As well as being used for performances, the hall would also be used for students to give exam recitals. Due to the nature of the seating, there was nowhere for the examiners to sit and make notes while judging the performances.

Head of Estates Management Martin Auger came up with an idea to overcome this. He thought that if a judging platform could be constructed to sit on top of the retractable tiers, it would be ideal, as it could be removed when there were no exams taking place. It would also mean that their existing tables and chairs could be utilised. He contacted Maltbury to help him to work out the practicalities of this idea.

The specifications were quite different to the staging supplied previously: these decks needed to be as light and compact as possible, so as to be easily moved over the tiers during installation. Both Metrodeck and Metrodeck Ultra were discussed, with the newer aluminium system the final choice. Maltbury supplied a package of Metrodeck Ultra that fitted perfectly onto the tiers when some of the seats were flat.

Mr Auger was very happy with the end result: "The Guildhall School is very happy to be associated with the products supplied by Maltbury. These include Concert hall staging and additional staging used for the judging panel which was supplied to fit onto the new retractable seating system. If Maltbury say they will deliver, they do!"
